Lotsa Pop

Kieron Gillen's top 40 tracks of 2008:

http://gillen.cream.org/wordpress_html/?p=1675

For those confused and disturbed by Al posting about pop music (or at all), I'll quickly point out that Kieron Gillen, writer of the brilliant comic Phonogram, is the sort of cultural commentator with the right mix of enthusiasm, intelligence and humour to make me interested in stuff I wouldn't ordinarily care about. Even pop and dance music. Even if, after clicking the youtube links, I wind up hating most of the stuff he enthuses over. Anyway, go have a look, listen to some music and cast a wistful ear of memory over 2008, and maybe meet some tunes you've never heard but might like. Or hate. Go on, it's on me.

Then go read Phonogram, 'cause it's awesome.

For bonus points, tell me which two albums out of the 41 mentioned I own...

Also, Happy New Year!

Kieron Gillen is on Eurogamer sometimes!

Eurogamer.net

Including their best games of 2008 list. He was pure wank on it though.

Correct! I also have the Portishead album, which isn't part of the list but would have earned you a bonus point high score!

And yes, he used to be a games journalist, and still is to some extent, I suppose. He's much more interesting talking comics and music wank, though...

nice post,
a gold mine of stuff i'd forgotten and never noticed...
Los Campesinos, Florence and the machine, and TV on the Radio all got disappeared into the back corridors of my memory.
