Searching for the right to privacy

Google recently announced that they will be slashing thier retention policy to 9 months, and while it is not ideal it is a step in the right direction.

Yahoo have just delivered some devastating ground and pound in the privacy battle by announcing that they will anonymise user logs after 90 days.

No real details have been released yet, but hopefully this isn't just a PR stunt and they will do a good job of it.

One way or another, Brido will let you know!

Gears of War know how to advertise

So Gears of War 1 pretty much MADE 'Mad World' a hit some Christmases ago by using it really well in their ad(I have no idea if this is true but it sounds about right) and if you've caught the GOW 2 trailer they do a similar thing.
It works really well and at the very least catches your attention, and I only just got around to looking into the music

It's a band called DeVotchKa

Turns out they did the music to Little Miss Sunshine and have in fact been around for a wee while now.
Downloaded their album with the Gears song on it and it's awesome!
Been listening to it several times today, it's at times like a Mexican, Eastern European Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds mixed with Sigur Ros backing. On Crack! And Acid!
Well no. Not really. Sounds nothing like they're on crack. Or Acid. Sorry. Just sounded good.

done something crazy last night.

I couldn't sleep last night and at about 1.30am I had a crazy thought - I am going to delete everything from my hard drives. So I did. All my mp3's, all my movies, tv shows, porn, pdf books, fighting instructionals, everything I downloaded over the years. I just though “fuck copyright and closed licensing, i'm through with it”. I will still buy books and stuff that are under copyright, but I will be more looking for material with more progressive licensing, such as creative commons or open source. Like good old Neil Gaiman, he's cool!

At this rate I will be living in a farm community before long. Downloading all this stuff just felt hypocritical, and it feels great to be rid of it all! I didn't finish series 2 of The Wire, so I need to watch it with someone AdamandAl. In fact, we should all watch The Wire again, I could watch series 1 again, and I think it is a show we would all enjoy.
