1UP.com E3 Coverage

1UP have been putting together stuff related to this week's E3, the highlight of which, for me, has been the Podcasts, and the 1UP Show.

The 1UP Show

1UP Yours (Podcast - Tuesday 15th)
1UP Yours (Podcast - Wednesday 16th)

I'd highly recommend downloading and watching this week's 1UP Show - it's got a good run down, with footage, of the various E3 conferences, and foolows it up with an in depth look at Gears of War 2.

Oviously, there's more stuff, including write-ups, footage, and more Podcasts at 1up.com

Get yer Xbox LIVE subscriptions 'ere!

Til-ting-tang-til! (That one's for Brido - maybe)

I bought a 13 month subscription off eBay a few months back, for a meagre £23.49, from one jasper1675. The guy was legit, I got the link from a web forum with pages of happy customers. He emails you the code within an hour or two, and off you go on your happy way for 13 months.

However, recent changes to eBay practices meant people who sell emailed codes meant he was gone from eBay. He was also being hassled by other LIVE subscription sellers who had apparently been fixing prices for maximum profit.

He has now opened up his own webpage, the descriptively named www.jasper1675.com. He's selling 13 Month codes for £25.00, via Paypal and Google Checkout.

I realise of course that both Al and Brido seem to use LIVE minimally, but with September and the changes it will bring fast approaching, times might be different. With Adam living with Katie, Brido living in Gourock, and me and Al both residing in undisclosed locations, now may be the right time to get tore into online gaming again. Let's not forget the new XBOX dash update, bringing us 8-player Party mode, which, if nothing else, will let us chat togather, and play daft minigames.

Some would say any money is too much for online gaming, but for me, £25.00 for over a year of online action and arseing around with your friends really isn't asking a lot.

Wii Motion Plus announced !

LET THE MOTION CONTROL WARS BEGIN!

http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH

'Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space.

The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion.

Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone.

Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.'

Pre-emptive strike to Microsoft's superior Motion tech?

More excitingly, no company announces big hardware changes without a major game to back it up, or give it away with. Otherwise, your audience gets cut in half and trouble begins. So, are we going to see something big, like Wii Sports 2, or the long rumoured Wii Music game, that'll amaze us all like the Wii originally did over 2 years ago?

MICROSOFT

Microsoft haven't fully unvieled their 2nd half 08 linup, or any of their 09 lineup, so hopefully we'll see some surprises, or just more depth about games we know are coming. The big ones are Gears of War 2, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Viva Pinata, Halo Wars, Too Human, and Fable 2. Resident Evil 5 should get a showing too, although it's not been confirmed for 08, and there's not been huge amounts of detail about the game released. There's Prince of Persia too, which is looking great. Again, a lot of these games we know about, but haven;t been given full details or release dates, so we should see some of that.

Surprise game anouncements or details may include 2 new Halo games (Peter jackson's 'Halo Chronicles', and a teased Bungie game), Bioshock 2, maybe Mass Effect sequels, an update on Alan Wake, and something from Rare (possible more Perfect Dark).

What's equally as interesting are other Hardware related announcements. MS unveiled the new 60Gb XBOX 360 Premium is replacing the 20Gb model, which will cease production and get a price reduction while stocks last (at least, in the US). There's also been rumours abound all over the internet about the MS Motion Controller, codenamed by some as the 'Newton'. This is reported to be similar in use to the Wiimote, but using more advanced technology. Undoubtedly, this could be the biggest announcement of the entire show, as it demonstrates an attempt (which some may label desperate) to capture some of the Wii's casual audience, as the 360 sales slow while Wii's continue to skyrocket. It would be unusual for a company to unleash such technology without the software to show it off, so expect some games we know of to include it (rumours suggest Banjo Kazooie, and possible one of the new Halo games), or even some utterly new games designed around it (360ii Sports anyone?)

It also paves the way for the much rumoured Dashboard updates to the 360. There has been talk of a Minority Report style 3D Dashboard which would use this technology, which frankly, sounds awesome. Some screens have also leaked of a Mii style interface for 360, codenamed 'Avatars', reputed to replace the current Gamerpic on your gamercard, and undoubtedly for use in some kind of 3D dashboard environment, similar to Sony's long awaited 'Home' software (which may or may not launch this year). Although, it has been reported that MS were hard at work on such a thing several years ago and cancelled it, so I guess they got their first. Will Microsoft steal Wii's motion control, and then launch a Home style interface before Sony can?

Either way, exciting times ahead for the rest of the week.

Mainly for the photography part on the front page, which I thought could be of interest. However the entire project has value, I really like the idea of it.
